Thirteen Things

In honor of back to school.....Thirteen things I’ve learned in BU135, aka OSHA & Security:

1.Tools in the work place should be checked for excessive vibration

2. The general duty clause of OSHAct requires that employers provide a workplace that is free from hazards that are likely to harm employees.

3. Boyle’s law states that the product of a given pressure and volume is constant with a constant temperature.

4. The Three E’s of Safety are: Engineering, Education and Enforcement.

5. Simple Minds sings Don’t You Forget about Me, the theme song from The Breakfast Club.

6. Every one of my instructor’s female horses has kicked him in the junk at least once.

7. OSHAct applies only to employers with 11 or more employees.

8. Critical burns are second-degree burns that cover 30 percent of body surface area.

9. To reduce pressure hazards, pressurized hoses should be as short as possible.

10. Hard hats are tested to withstand 40 foot-pounds of impact.

11. The most common cause of work injuries is overexertion.

12. There are no OSHA standards to cover sick building syndrome.

13. Sponge Bob Square Pants lives in the town of Bikini Bottom.

Stuff

Today is the last Sunday of August. Next weekend is Labor Day, the "official" end of summer. What? Where did the sumer go? This summer was kinda sucky. It was hot and dry, so no grilling for the last 2 months because of a burn ban. The hot weather made it almost impossible to be outside, so lots of time indoors with the a/c blasting.

Of course, fall is good too, except for the fact that it is followed by winter. Which, in North Dakota, can be brutal. We've had some very mild winters in the recent past, and in the very very distant past, North Dakota was actually tropical. I don't see us going back to stone age weather any time soon, but if it could just not do the whole 40 below crap, I'd be happy. I've digressed. . . Fall is good too. I can start baking bread again because I won't mind heating the oven. My crock pot becomes my friend again and fills my house with great smells. Nights are cooler and sleep comes easier. School has started and Tb is actually going. Yarn is on sale at Hobby Lobby. I don't need any. But I did actually look at the ad today.

My boss is awesome. I do not have a computer at home. I know, I'm probably the only person left on the planet that doesn't. Anyhoo....my boss is very supportive of my going to college and has let me use my work computer to complete homework assignments. Well, Friday I told him that I would be going in on Saturday to do my OSHA paper, thanked him for letting me do this and told him that I didn't have a computer at home. Later on, he told me that he has a computer sitting in his garage that he would give me. Yes, give me. I offered to pay him for it, but he said no. So, later today, Tb and I will be going over and getting it. Computer, printer, scanner, speakers....wow. What an awesome gift. I'm just thrilled. Now, I just need to figure out where we will be putting it....And how to get it up and running. I'm a bit of a techno-phobe and I have no idea how these things do what they do. Maybe, it's time to learn. Oy!

Got my new glasses. I can read again! Not that I couldn't before, but it was bothersome. I actually did read for awhile yesterday - for pleasure. It was great! Between the new prescription and the two adjustments at the chiropractor last week, I could possibly become headache-free! woohoo!

That's all for now. It's quiet at the paper today. Only and hour and 10 minutes to go....

I Hate Everybody

I have been walking around all day today with my shirt on inside out. Not one person said anything. Geez.

My yahoo radio keeps playing Kenny G Christmas songs. I have NEVER rated Kenny G anything and I went in and un-rated Christmas music. It's freekin' August----I don't want to hear Winter Wonderland.

PS - I have a new toy at the bottom of the page. It probably won't be here long, but have fun while it is.

Grab Bag

Saturday, Penneys was having one of their weekly "Biggest Sales Ever". So I bought a nifty pair of tennis shoes. Need a new pair really bad. Tried one on, not both. Got them home, they are different sizes. Grr. Hopefully they will have another pair in the correct size when I finally get the time to return them tomorrow.

I was an hour late for work today. I had to get laundry done or else I'd be sitting here in panties and a shirt. I hate it when I get that far behind. Oh well, also had time to get some stew cooking. At least I'll have food prepared for a couple of days.

I just found out that Invasion was cancelled. Damn that pisses me off. I really liked that show! And this weekend, all my summer shows on USA are having their season finales. No more Monk, Psyche or 4400. *sigh* Wonder when the new fall shows starts?
J J J J J
Went to Clerks II this weekend. Damn that was funny. Pillow pants....interspecies erotica...HA! I have a thing for Kevin Smith. I've liked all of his movies, he's got a warped sense of humor. Love that. And, he's cute.

Netflix this weekend was Match Point. It was pretty good. A little more intense that I thought it would be, but I'd recommend it.

A friend of mine loaned me his new Gin Blossoms CD - Major Lodge Victory. It's really good. I may steal it from him.

Exercise Report #1

I said I needed to be accountable for the exercise thing. Well, Day 1, didn't go. I know, I suck. I'm also falling apart. My neck and shoulder are out of whack. I have a chiropractor appt this afternoon. He can usually get me back to functioning with one adjustment.

Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes

I miss knitting. Of course, I don't like to knit much in the summer, and I don't want summer to end, but I want to knit.

I want to read for pleasure more. I used to read some every day, even if it was just a few minutes before bed. Now, I always seem to have a book or two that I'm reading, but seems like it is only about once a week when I make the opportunity.

I want to quit my part-time job. It won't happen until January, there are 23 more weekends from now until the end of January. I have requested one of them off (so far) and should get 4 or 5 others off, just because that is the normal way of doing things. I can do this. I have a bill that will be paid off on January 19th. Then, no more need for this job. But, we have a new manager starting in a few weeks, maybe he can get some things changed for the better and this won't be a crap job anymore, of course, I really doubt it.

I know I've whined about this before, but I have got to start exercising again. I miss how good it makes me feel. The foot is still not 100%, but it may never be. Time to suck it up and get my lazy ass out of bed. Besides, I looked at my paycheck the other day and caught a glimpse of what I've paid to the Y this year. Way more than what I have used the Y this year. Wow. So, expect boring updates of my exercise schedule. I gotta be accountable somewhere.....

I miss movie nights. Kt and I used to do a movie night every week. This summer we've just sort of let it slip away....I've been having trouble just getting one movie watched. I miss our off-beat movies we like to watch.

I Feel Better Now

Because these things are so darned accurate:

You Are 27 Years Old

You Are 27 Years Old
Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.
13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.
20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.
30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!
40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

Ack - I'm becoming Middle-Aged!

Went to the eye doctor today. I was overdue for a check-up and reading has become difficult. Not the far away kind. The up-close and personal kind. My near-sightedness has improved, so by changing that, my cute doc thinks that it should help with the reading. He did write the prescription with optional bi-focal in case I change my mind in 6 months, but for now, he didn't think that it is bad enough to warrant having to get used to the bi-focal. Yeah.

Picked out some cute frames (I think). It's so hard to tell since I can't see, but I love the color, they are a rich copper, and the shape looks good on my dorky face - so says the optician. Wish I could find a pic of them on-line, but can't. I've loved my last frames except for the fact that they look nuclear when photographed. It's bizarre, really bizarre.

We got rain last night. A good bit of rain, 3/4" actually. Woohoo! We need it BAAAAD! Maybe with a bit more, we can get the burn ban lifted and get in some grilling before the snow flies!

Yesterday I went on an adventure into my past. I have this memory of going to a movie when I was about 11. I rode my bike to the theater, so it HAD to be summertime. The movie had a scene in it where this ghost becomes as big as the house he is haunting. Freaked me out. Then on the way home, on the bike, in the dark, I came upon a tree that just looked like this gigantic ghost. Scared the crap out of me. I thought the name of the movie was The Ghost, but can't find it anywhere! Yahoo, Imdb, Google....not to be found. So, I decided to look at the old newspapers from my hometown on microfilm. Fun! I breezed through 3 summers worth of ads for the local theater, but still can't figure it out. Makes me wonder if I imagined this whole memory. Oh well. Maybe I'll look again another day when I have some more time. It was a fun trip back to the Seventies.

What Does Cooth Mean?

Two people have come to my blog by googling "What does cooth mean?" Funny. Also, people have arrived by searching for Pizza Burger Flying Style and Nick Gilder Homosexuality. hmmm. Love the site meter....

Anyhooo......Looks like it's time for a dear diary post:

Work is getting back to normal. I can actually see some of my desk. The auditors have left us, and sounds like their findings will not be too bad. I will be getting a couple of dings for some things, but nothing too major. The two days off last week were great, but still had 5 days worth of work to do....

Tb is all signed up and will be starting college next Tuesday. Yeah! Financial aid package looks good. Now, just so he will realize that this is an excellent opportunity and make the most of it. I'm still skeptical, but he seems enthused about it and ready. One of his classes is at 7:30 am. I am flabbergasted that he actually agreed to go to a class at that time of day.

School is going good for me too. I still have my 4.0 average at mid-term. Very excited about getting my schedule for next quarter.....think they come out this week or next. I hope I have an accounting class. I know, I'm one sick puppy.

Kt and I traveled to the zoo in Minot last Saturday. We took my nearly 3 year old neice. I think we all had a great time. And my neice, now has a new best friend. She really liked Kt. go figure. ha! She also was highly entertained by the water puddles, so we got her dirty and then sugared her up. Snow cone at the zoo and then a stop at the Dairy Queen on the way home. She had it made.....She'd lick her cone, then get a swig of Kt's slush, then get a taste of my Mr. Misty Freeze.

We also went to a great kitchen store ---- found a gadget called a wedgie. For slicing hard boiled eggs. And finally got a spoon rest I won't break or burn. It's stainless steel. I'm so excited about this. (note to self: please get a life)

Lunch was at an Irish Pub I had never been too. Got an awesome Rueben and homemade potato chips. Yep, homemade, they are great!

Today, having lunch with my parents. They are passing through on their way to Medora. Late lunch, but free lunch. Always good.

My cheapo digital camera that I was having so much fun with has decided to no longer allow me to download pictures from it. Not quite sure what to do about that. I've tried downloading the driver, didn't help. I do have the software somewhere at home....not supposed to need it with XP, but maybe that will help. Grrr. I already had come to the conclusion that I DO like having a digital camera and I was planning on buying a better one in the future, but would have liked to have decided when on my time line. dang it.

Cashed in some of my Coke Rewards points today. Got a new Sony DVD player. Let's see, 560 points divided by 3 = 187 diet cokes. So, hmmm, that's about $230 worth of soda. I really should break that nasty habit. Think of the money I could save. I do enjoy my daily DC, but not $$ that much. Do they have rehab for DC addicts??

Woo-Freekin'-Hoo!

I got my party hat on! The auditors. GONE! As I was walking back into the office after taking Tb to meet with his academic advisor (another big party occassion), they were heading out. AAAHHHHHHH.......Work can get back to normal now.

I used to be a Blogger.....

I bought a new camera in July so I've been playing with it. Today, I tried a mirror shot. This one didn't work out so good. But it made me laugh. I should have gotten more eyebrow in there, I just had them done last week. I look like a girl again.

It was hotter than blazes here this past weekend. 112 freekin' degrees. It was perfect here yesterday - I think it was about 83. That is how summers should be here in ND.

Auditors are still here. I don't like that. It makes work more like work. Yuk. But, all part of the fun of state government.

It's already mid-term week at school. This quarter is going so fast! It's going pretty good. I'm still procrastinating too much with the homework. Gotta knock that shit off.

We have a construction project going on here that may close us down for a day. Yippee. A free day off from work. I could definitely use that! Wish they would get it figured out so we know when. I've got goofing off to plan.

This weekend should be oodles of fun. There is an arts and crafts thingy going on. Which means ---- GOOD FOOD! And the fair in New Salem. Wonder if the foot long corn dog dude will be there. Damn them thangs are good. And, the weather is supposed to be nice! Bonus!

Watched The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio this past weekend. I'm not a movie reviewer, but I know what I enjoy and I enjoyed this movie. The weekend before, Tb and I went to Pirates of the Carribean -- loved that. Damn that Johnny Depp is H-O-T!

I'm also in love with a new TV show. Psych. I always like mystery type shows and I usually like comedies. This one, is both. And it's on right after another fave, Monk. USA network seems to have my must see tv of the summer! Not loving Big Brother this summer, maybe it will get better.....not holding my breath tho.

This probably ranks as my most boring post ever. But hey - my life has been very boring lately. I'm busy. But boring. Damn.
